Nothing Comes Between Me and My Feminism

In telling another part of my story today over on BuzzFeed Ideas (!), I got to mention both Emily Dickinson and Brooke Shields.

Her infamous Calvin Klein commercial from the early ‘80s came out right around the time I attended Christian Charm School. (Emily Dickinson preferred white dresses to denim, as far as we know.)

“You want to know what comes between me and my Calvins?” Shields asked the camera. “Nothing.“

Scandalous!

The new article is about becoming a feminist after decades of being a fundamentalist. And what I really want to say now is that, like Brooke Shields and her Calvins, nothing’s coming between me and my feminism again.
